There are many establishments that provide breast pumps through your insurance.
Heartsail Medical, in Hartselle, Alabama, is a great local DME. They will get your information and take care of everything else, including obtaining your prescription from your OBGYN, checking your coverage, and letting you know which pumps they have available. Not only do they take care of things for your breast pump; they will also supply you with replacement parts through your insurance (if that's a service your insurance covers). Don't worry if they're not local to you. They will happily help you via email/ phone to get everything you need and are able to ship your supplies to your house!
Check your insurance for in-home lactation consults during your pregnancy or postpartum with us here and contact Heart Sail Medical for your pump! Getting prenatal education and knowing you have breastfeeding support lined up can ease your worry about baby's feedings. Take care of these things earlier in pregnancy and have less to do before baby arrives on your checklist.
BUT WHICH PUMP DO I CHOOSE!?
Many moms want to opt for a wearable pump, but we recommend getting a good pump with a strong motor through your insurance. You'll want to use this as your main pump if needing extra stimulation to establish a good milk supply. You can always purchase a wearable later on if you want to try one. Wearable pumps aren't as efficient, so trying to establish a good milk supply with a wearable typically doesn't work as well as a a "wall pump".
A few of the pumps our clients have used and have worked well are:
Spectra 1 (plug in only or battery option)
Spectra 2 (plug in only)
Motif Luna (plug in or battery option)
Again, there are many more options, remember any pump company can label their pump as "hospital grade", but that doesn't mean it works well. Read reviews, ask your friends and lactation consultants for their recommendations.
Contact us for a prenatal appointment and we're happy to discuss your options, as well as be available to assist with feedings once your sweet baby arrives!
